What difference has StudentSurvey.ie made in your institution?

Since 2013, over 300,000 first and final year undergrads and taught postgrads have used StudentSurvey.ie to share their thoughts and feedback with their higher education institution. But in that time what difference has StudentSurvey.ie made in your institution? How have the results been used to enhance the student experience across the 25 higher education institutions that take part?

We are asking staff and student representatives to reflect upon 9 years of StudentSurvey.ie and how this major national survey has made an impact in your institution.

What was the result that triggered a response from the institution?

Work-based learning and progression opportunities featured strongly in feedback from students.

The main analysis from StudentSurvey.ie demonstrated that students wanted

  1. More work-based learning opportunities and
  2. More progression opportunities to Masters Level

What did the institution do to respond to this feedback?

  1. This feedback has resulted in the provision of work-based learning opportunities in most Level 8 programmes and an Employability section on the Institute of Technology Carlow website. Here, students and prospective students can access information such as employability statements for their programme.
  2. The feedback relating the progression to Master level programmes has resulted in the expansion of the number of programmes, both taught and research, provided at Masters level. It has also resulted in the expansion of provision of NFQ Level 10 opportunities for students.

What was the impact of the response?

The impact of these interventions has resulted in an enhanced work-readiness profile of the graduates. The expansion of provision at Masters level has resulted in an ever-increasing number of students availing of these opportunities, as well as an increased interest in research opportunities, thus contributing to the knowledge economy of the South East.
